I come from a family of travelers and collectors - CIRCA TRADE continues a tradition.

CIRCA's collection represents distant lands distilled – a Berber carpet beneath an altar table, a Goan santos on top.

I hope to inspire customers to create individual and worldly spaces with treasures from abroad, to create their own collections, and to travel...I've sought items for their cultural significance and artistic merit - often representing a skill or craft on the wane. The Collection has a bit of everything - old and not-so, daily and ritual, quirky and wonderful.

Ordering

Most of Circa Trade's pieces are, if not one-of-a-kind, at least one of a very few, so there is no shopping cart to pile your pieces into. We have a neat compromise.

Each item's page features an Add to my Wishlist button. Click, add and, when you're ready to inquire about availability, shipping, or ordering massive quantities of something you've taken a shine to, send me an email and your wish list will be automatically attached. Check your Wishlist here.

As long as I travel (given) there will be new pieces to show so sign up for the newsletter or return often.

CIRCA SOURCING:

I travel lots and usually have sources wherever I touch down. If you are interested in commissioning full or partial sourcing trips – please inquire.

CIRCA DESIGN:

Living room southeast

In my New York City apartment and my 1850's farmhouse, I live amidst CIRCA and the collections of my own and my family's nomadic lives. CIRCA design services - re-imagining or tweaking your home to reflect your global sensibility and singular spirit - can be as simple as suggesting a few pieces to suit a space to sourcing architectural elements, furnishings and helping you to launch your own collection. A portfolio is here.

CIRCA’s PAST

CIRCA opening invite

I founded Circa Trade and launched its website in India in the late 90’s - Soho rents were prohibitive.

In India things could be handmade and sourced for less than the cost of US postage. I could be sweltering in Calcutta one day and bundled-to-my-ears in Darjeeling the next. Beside my shop a chai-wallah labored and every afternoon a herd of goats went by before it.

Diwalis passed and I traveled - restocking as I went.

...

In 2005 I re-launched CIRCA TRADE in Hudson NY. CIRCA II - moo cows replace the bullocks.

I'll keep traveling, please keep checking in. Courtney, Hudson NY 2007
